因为在杂化理论当中除了H2外的所有多原子分子结合时,轨道都会杂化,杂化是为了增强成键能力。杂化一般发生在分子形成过程中,并且能量相近的原子轨道间才能发生杂化。杂化发生后,原子最外层s轨道中的一个电子被激发至p轨道,使将要发生杂化的原子进入激发态;之后该层的s轨道与三个p轨道发生杂化。
