因为燃烧所需三个条件:可燃物、空气、达到燃点。蜡烛属可燃物,并且与水不相溶,水中也溶有氧气,只要达到燃点,蜡烛便能在水中燃烧。

水起到冷却作用,使靠近水的蜡烛不会融化,而中间的蜡烛不断向下燃烧。蜡烛燃烧形成的蜡液经水冷却后,构成一层很薄的外壁。蜡烛密度小,融化时漂浮在上面,将水和火焰隔离开来,这样火焰遇水时不会熄灭,而是继续燃烧。
