1、竹荪的营养丰富,每100克干品中含蛋白质20克,脂肪2.6克,碳水化合物38克,以及多种矿物质、维生素和16种氨基酸,其中谷氨酸的含量高达1.76%,比任何一种食用菌的含量都高,因而竹荪特别鲜美。

2、在云南,苗族同胞将竹荪和糯米一同泡水喝,用以治疗虚弱症、损伤症和咳嗽,有止痛补气之效。竹荪还具有解膩助消化的作用。中医认为竹荪有大补之功,但其药用价值在历代本草著作中鲜有论述。用竹荪作药膳可消除腹壁多余的脂肪,具有明显的减肥效果。竹荪汽锅鸡、竹荪银耳等,对人体可起到滋补强壮的作用。竹荪蔬菜汤可以降低血压、血脂,对高胆固醇症也有一定疗效。
